cat6 cabling

Although the CAT5e / CAT6 cable can be utilised in many applications, as outlined below it is in data networks that its installation is critical Computer Networks today are operating at either 100megabits per second(Fast Ethernet) or 1000megabits per second(Gigabit Ethernet). Most systems today are operating at 100mb but with the cost of Gigabit technology falling, users will be tempted to migrate to this faster technology over the next few years. Its important that they ensure their cabling infrastructure will cope with the demands of this new technology . It is estimated that only 22% of CAT5e networks have been tested!!

Cat5e Cabling & Cat6 Cabling

Ampec Ltd | Networks | Structured Cabling | Cat5e Cabling | Cat6 Cabling | Data Cabling | Fibre Optics | Security Systems | AV Installation | Interactive Whiteboard Installation

Ampec is your local specialist in the design, installation, testing, certification and repair of all types of data cabling. Cat5 and Cat6 cabling, otherwise know as data cabling, voice cabling and structured cabling, is suitable for computer data, telephony, audio and visual communications. All Ampec structured cabling installations are fully tested pre and post fitting using the latest Fluke DTX1800 cable analyser, to confirm that the cabling will allow data transmissions at Gigabit speed. Data cabling and voice cabling which isn’t correctly installed and tested is a false economy and can’t be relied upon to support the equipment’s potential. If your network is running slowly, contact Ampec for a “network health check” (please see Consultancy & Auditing).

A small investment in a cabling upgrade is likely to reap a big return on investment terms of speed and resulting efficiency. As part of our complete service and for your convenience, Ampec works in partnership with IT system installation and support companies.

Our fully guaranteed, high quality Cat5e and Cat6 copper cabling is reliable, safe and offers the high capacity data transfer a network depends on for efficient performance. Ampec are approved installers of HellermannTyton, Connectix Excel and LMS Data Products, all of which carry a minimum of 15 year product warranty.

Do I Need Cat5e Or Cat6 Data Cabling?

Copper cabling is constantly evolving to keep up with ever increasing communications equipment processing speeds, hence the transition from Cat5 cabling to Cat5e to Cat 6. Ampec will advise you on the most appropriate data cabling option to meet your needs (please see Consultancy & Auditing for further details).

Cat5e Cabling

Cat5e cabling is still used for over 95% of networks. Cat5e cabling allows data transmissions up to a Gigabit per second at distances of up to 100 metres, if correctly installed. Cat5e cabling which is not fitted to the appropriate standard will result in data corruption. Prior to any new hardware installation, it is therefore strongly recommended that you have your system tested, to check it is capable of supporting the upgrade.

Cat5 CCA   is a cheaper copper coated aluminium cable which can reliably transmit data at 100Mbits but is unreliable for a 1000Mbits (Gigabit) network. It is a false economy to install Cat5CAA instead of Cat5e cabling as your network will be severely impeded. Many unscrupulous installers use this instead of CAT5e to save on costs.

Cat5e FTP is a shielded version of Cat5e cabling and is used in industrial applications where high voltage cables are likely to be in the vicinity now or in the future.

Cat6 Cabling
Cat6 cabling has a higher specification than Cat5e cabling and is designed to support Gigabit data transmission up to 100 metres and even 10 Gigabits over shorter distances. The installation and testing criteria for Cat6 cabling is much more stringent than for Cat5e cabling and hence more expensive. Cat6a cabling and Cat7 cabling are capable of 10 Gigabit data transfer up to 100 metres.

Voice System / Telephony System Cabling
Reliable cabling infrastructure for your phone system is essential for efficient communication. Cat5e cabling and Cat6 cabling is now common place to support all communications systems, resulting in specific voice cabling being gradually phased out. Voice Over IP (VoIP) cabling infrastructure requirements are Cat5e cabling or Cat6 cabling with its higher bandwidth boosting performance. As part of our complete service, Ampec works in partnership with and can recommend phone system installers.
